Groovy Granny Squares Blanket

This vintage daisy granny square blanket was a delight to work on. Made of the loveliest, bounciest, softest hand-washed Merino wool I could find, this 70’s-inspired, easy to wash, easy to care for, instant heirloom will keep its forever home cozy and cheerful for many years to come.

The Process

When it comes to making a blanket of this size, with such an abundance of hues and tones, balancing the color scheme is half the challenge. The other half is trying to Tetris the squares around, so that the colors pool evenly across the whole king-sized length of it. Each square took about an hour to make, so for 9*6 squares…well you can do the math.

After combining and recombining the squares in a million different ways, and looking at it from a hundred different angles, I was ready to join- connecting all the pieces together, and enclosing the whole thing in a bright, decorative border. It is endlessly satisfying to turn a beautiful basket of lovingly crafted yarn into a tall pile of squares, then into a messy patchwork with loose ends at every turn, and finally, transforming it into its polished final form.
