Frequently Asked Questions

Each ¡MZ Makes It! piece is handmade and customize-able to your specifications. Like most handmade goods, no two pieces are ever exactly alike, even with the same pattern and yarn. Clothing or fitted accessories are made to measure, and yarns are selected to best fit the project’s scope and budget. Find answers to commonly asked questions below, and feel free to reach out - no commitment necessary - for further clarification.

  • A great place to start is the Portfolio, where you can explore some of MZ’s recent work. See if anything strikes your fancy or piques your curiosity! Consider your budget, and your intentions. Are you looking for something you can display, or something you can use? A tribute piece or a comfort item for a loved one? Something durable or something delicate? The best crochet is the crochet that satisfies your particular needs!

  • All inquiries, and a brief consultation via email is conducted free of charge. You can expect to hear from MZ in a week or two (via email MZ@mzmakesit.com in case it goes to spam). Once the order has been agreed upon MZ will request a small deposit (for projects over 100$) in order to protect her time.

  • The majority of MZ’s work is original, and all original designs are noted as such in her portfolio. Some pieces are created by referencing and adapting patterns by some of the many amazing artists in the crochet community.

  • MZ generally freehands, because she loves to improvise and also because her process is generally intuitive and disorganized. But, if life ever gets less busy, she would love to write, test, and publish patterns for other crochet makers out there!

  • No! Currently MZ doesn’t have an Etsy shop, due to the fees and limitations that would incur. This website MZ is currently the best way to follow her work, make inquiries, and commission items.

  • Choosing the right materials for your project and your budget is very important. Don’t worry, that's where MZ’s expertise will guide you! MZ uses mostly organic fibers such as wool (silk, cashmere, mohair, alpaca etc.) as well as plant fibers (cotton, linen, hemp, bamboo etc.) Acrylic yarns and other synthetic materials are sometimes used, because of their versatility in color, their durability, and lower price point.

  • Transparency and accessibility are of vital importance to MZ. Her work can range from $20-30 to over $1,000, depending on the complexity, scale, and materials of the crochet project. Prices are determined by adding (materials and supplies)+(duration of project)*her hourly rate.

For example: a pillow made of acrylic yarn and polyfill stuffing may take $20 of materials, and 6 hours to complete. The pillow would then be priced roughly at ($15)+ (6*10)= $80. The same pillow made with wool and cotton stuffing would increase that price range to $100.

Budgets of all sizes can be accommodated by swapping yarn, reducing size, or simplifying the pattern. Let’s work together to design something that you don’t need to feel guilty about!

  • This will be determined during the consultation and confirmed by email. MZ accepts payment Via Venmo, Zelle, and cash prior to delivery.

MZ delivers locally in the greater Boston area, and ships all over the U.S. (shipping fees depend on the size of the project!)

  • Due to the time-consuming nature of crochet, MZ can only take on as many commissions as she can reasonably fit on her calendar. When the calendar is full, she will gladly put you on her waitlist for the next round of orders.
